De Boer provides party structures for Rail Link party

October 4, 2007

The Channel Tunnel Rail Link is Britain’s largest ever single construction project, and the first railway line to open for 100 years. To celebrate the event, London & Continental Railways threw a party for 2,100 people connected with the project. To ensure a venue elegant enough for the occasion and large enough for the crowd, LCR contacted Proteus.

The party was held on September 19, 2007, beside the embankment just north of St. Pancras International station in London. A total of 550 working days were needed to create the structures over three weeks. Two smaller Delta structure annexes flanked a massive Delta structure standing nine meters (30 feet) tall. The complex was also linked to a big Alu Hall. The final structure covered 13,000 square meters (or 15,500 square yards) of space.

The complex of structures played host to a dinner, exhibition and musical performance by members of the cast from West End hit show “We Will Rock You”. Guests were also treated to a fireworks display outside.

A project this size demonstrates what Proteus can offer, from ground-breaking designs to wonderful teamwork between office-based logistics teams and the crews on site.

De Boer's temporary structures are a match for the downpours

Proteus created a magical summer ball venue for the 20th anniversary of the MITIE Group, a business finance company. On the grounds of Warwick Castle, Proteus created a party complex incorporating a main dinner-dance hall, a stunning five-Pyramid reception area, toilets and rest areas – all complete with air conditioning, white linings and black carpet.

The rain stayed away for the party night itself and the guests all celebrated in style with a three-course dinner and entertainment from magicians and several bands. Later, torrential rain formed a fast-flowing river through the medieval castle grounds, but the interior of the Proteus structures remained secure and dry.

The G-8 Summit Bets on De Boer

June 5, 2007

Proteus made its second appearance at a G-8 Summit in June of 2007, when it provided a press center in Kühlungsborn, near the border of the Baltic Sea. The first was in 1999 during the Summit in Colony.

The G8 composes Germany, France, Great Britain, Italy, Japan, the U.S.A., Canada and Russia. The European Commission also sends a representative to the Summit. In attendance as well are some 5,000 media representatives from around the globe. Proteus was charged with creating a structure that would see to the comfort and convenience of the media.

The De Boer Emperor, a new wood and aluminum structure with two floors, provided accommodations where members of the press could write and file their news stories to inform the world about this important event.
