November 9, 2007 - The Mondriaan Zorggroep's new semi-permanent addiction center building in Maastricht opened on November 10. The building was constructed in a little more than six months by Jan Snel, a market leader in the field of temporary and flexible accommodation and a Proteus partner business. The Mondriaan Zorggroep faced a deadline to provide shelter for addicts within the year. It was very difficult to find a permanent location at such short notice, so the decision was made to contract a temporary building. The semi-permanent construction by Jan Snel looks like a permanent building, both internally and externally. The building is expected to be in use for a period of at least five years. It will be used to admit, treat and assist drug addicts, as well as to dispense methadone and heroin. Since the building is modular in construction, its size can be easily altered, quickly dissembled or moved to another location. “This building was developed together with Maurer United Architects and is a beautiful example of a temporary building that looks permanent from inside and out, yet retains all the benefits of a temporary building,” said Harry van Zandwijk, Jan Snel director. “Temporary accommodation can be implemented quickly so that healthcare providers can meet their short-term housing requirements. This is why we see more and more healthcare providers opting for temporary or flexible accommodation.” The building is located on the Geradusweg. It was officially opened at 11 a.m. on November 19, 2007 by Councilor Jacques Costongs. During the opening ceremony, a Covenant of Cooperation was signed by representatives from the Buurtplatform Wyckerpoort Actief [Wyckerpoort Neighborhood Association], the Police and the Mondriaan Zorggroep.
